Although automatic lawnmowers are offered with plenty of appealing features to select from, if you’re seriously looking into making a purchase, you should be aware of the following:

  1. Not every automatic lawnmower is designed for the same cutting coverage. There is a maximum work area for each one. If you’re lucky enough to have a large garden, then you should be looking for a larger mower.
  2. If the design of your garden is complex, then consider your automatic lawnmower and whether it will be able to pass down narrow passages or manage a lawn that is not of a standard shape.
  3. The heavier the mower, the more likely it is to leave track marks – in particular during inclement weather. Look for lighter models, unless you are going to challenge it with an oversized lawn or some very steep slopes, you shouldn’t need anything too heavy.
  4. Automatic mowers are equipped with one of two different blade types. One is the pivoting blade and the other is fixed. The benefit of choosing a lawn mower with pivoting blades is that it’s less likely to get stuck on hard objects. You can continue watching the cricket match or making the trifle without needing to keep popping to free it from obstacles.
  5. You can set the time when you want the automatic mower to be in operation. Some people prefer for this to happen once it has got dark, so that they can enjoy every last minute in the garden. Others prefer it to cut whilst they are at work. The ideal automatic mower will be quiet, and not disturb either you or your neighbours during sleeping hours.
  6. Automatic mowers come complete with an alarm. This will also give you information about where the mower is, supposing that it is stolen.
