Whether you call it a concrete mixer or a cement mixer, it’s the same machine. It mixes cement with water and sand or gravel in a revolving drum to produce concrete for construction purposes. The benefits of using a portable cement mixer is that the concrete can be used before it starts to ‘go off’ or harden.

The typical application for a cement or concrete mixer is to construct the foundation for a building such as shed or a summerhouse. It may also be used to create the foundation of a wall or even a garden path or pavement.
Our most popular cement mixing machines are petrol cement mixers which can be used practically anywhere. They are not reliant on having access to electricity. Cement mixers have changed a lot over the years and are no longer the big monstrosities that they were in the not so distant past. They were so large that it was not uncommon to see people mixing their own cement mix with a piece of wood to protect the patio, a bucket of water and a shovel.
Mixing cement by hand is a very physical job. It’s not something that everybody is willing to do even when a project is on a small scale. Time is of the essence when it comes to using the concrete once it’s mixed. It’s on a mission to set and it will need to be put into place and used rapidly.
Whether you opt for an electric or a petrol cement mixer they both work in similar ways. They will move a rotating barrel around in a similar fashion to a washing machine. As the barrel rotates it will mix the gravel, sand and cement together with the water. The barrel may be constructed of either plastic or steel. Your choice will depend on whether you will need to carry it around often and the weight of it.
Some cement mixers are supplied with wheels making them very mobile. Others don’t have wheels but just a stand and they are known as the stationary version.
