For many of us our 1st lawnmower was an electric hover that we bought (or were given) no matter what type of lawn we had. Times have changed and so have hover mowers. You can still buy electric hover mowers for small flat lawns but for larger lawns and especially banked areas a good petrol hover mower is ideal.

If your property has quite steep banked areas which require mowing the easiest and safest option is a petrol hover model. It’s nearly impossible to use a 4 wheeled mower on very steep grassy banks. If you can’t stand up safely on the slope then you’ll never use a four wheel mower on it. Both you and the mower will end up toppling over.
Hover mowers are most effective if used in a side to side ‘sweeping’ motion as they ‘hover’ over the grass. Therefore on banked areas if you stand with your back towards the bank you can mow from side to side safely and easily. Contractors have been using petrol hover mowers like this for years. To reduce the weight of the machine so it can ‘hover’ the decks are constructed of strong but lightweight ABS polymer.
Several brands are producing petrol hover mowers but we recommend the Toro HoverPro range with 3 models and the Cobra AirMow. The Toro lawn mowers offer 3 cutting widths with plastic or metal blades and the Cobra AirMow has a homeowner and professional model.
