It’s time to check that it’s ready for the first cut of the year. But first we need to know whether it will start? Here’s how you can prepare it so that it goes first time:

Read the manual

Surprisingly, a lot of people don’t read the manual of any machine that they own, but that’s where you can find the answer to most problems. It’s the reference material to find out whether you’ve been using the right fuel, oil and maintenance procedures to care for your machine. Reading the manual can save you a lot of expense in terms of both time and money.

Oil

It’s essential that you check the oil each time you want to use your machine. Just ensure that it’s on a level surface and then pull out the oil dipstick. Give it a wipe with a clean cloth and then re-insert. Remove it again and check whether the amount of oil in it measures up to the oil level indicator on the stick. It should be level with it.

If necessary top it up.

Air filter

Your air filter is a way to ensure that you don’t contaminate, clog up or even block your engine. Without it, your carburettor could be starved of oxygen and fail to work properly. Look for the air filter either on top of the mower or next to the carburettor. Check whether it needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Fuel

It’s not common knowledge that petrol breaks down over time. It’s a natural product, and if you’ve still got fuel in your mower from the last season, there’s a good chance that this will prevent your engine from starting. Don’t just top it up, empty it and replace it.

By investing a little time into preparing your lawn mower for the cutting season, you’ll ensure that it starts first time without any problems. If you try the above and it’s not working for you, give us a call to see if our technicians can help you out.
