Here are the jobs that you might want to start to get on top of for this earliest part of spring:

  • Lawn edges could be tied up with a half moon. Alternatively you might want to add lawn edging to make things easier with maintenance.
  • If you’re looking to get your first mow in, then wait for a dry day. You should also set the blades a tad higher than usual.
  • March is a good time to lay any new turf just as long as the ground isn’t frozen or waterlogged.
  • Alternatively it’s the time to prepare the ground to sew your own lawn seed.

If you’re not ready to face the outdoors as yet, then there are plenty of things to do comfortably from the sofa too:

  • Order your plug plants for flowers so that you can prepare your planters and hanging baskets. It’s also time to order any seeds that you want too.
  • Fruit trees can also be ordered, take a look at the dwarf fruit trees if you prefer the smaller versions
  • If you’re prepared to sew any more veggie seeds, then order in vegetable plants to give yourself an easier start to your veggie garden
  • Now is also a good time to put your seed packets in order by planting month. This way you won’t miss out on any opportunities if you check them each month.
  • Buy yourself a gardening only diary so that you can keep track of what seeds you have underway, when they were sewn and what your overall plans are.

In summary, March is a good time to start your preparation for your gardening year ahead. The weather is just beginning to warm up and plug plants are available.
