Our first response when we’re asked about clothing is to always wear clothes that are comfortable. Whilst you are in the garden you will be sitting down, bending and reaching, so it is important not to wear anything too tight or restricting. You also need to think practically: Whilst gardening you are likely to stain your clothing so clothes that wash well or are stain resistant are always a good idea!

Then we would recommend a good pair of gardening gloves. If you are using garden equipment like lawn rakes and spades, you will want to protect your hands. When picking a pair of gardening gloves we would recommend picking a pair of durable leather gloves that feel soft on the inside so that they are comfortable over long periods of time. You can pick up a quality pair in most garden centres and indeed find hardworking gardening gloves on our very own website! They are widely available and come in a range of styles and colours.

When it comes to trousers and tops, we would recommend long sleeve tops to protect your arms from prickly plants and bushes. By picking a top made from cotton, it will help to keep you cool (providing we are lucky enough to have some sunshine!)

The trousers that zip off to shorts are also a great investment. That way you can be prepared for both warm and cool temperatures.

Finally footwear: wellington boots are the most popular choice as they are incredibly durable, comfortable and suitable for wet weather. You can also clean them easily with a quick swish of a hose pipe!

For the keen gardeners amongst you, there are numerous other clothing products available such as knee pads, hats and protective clothing. There are also numerous clothing products that are ideal if working with specific garden equipment regularly. But that’s a story for another day.
